The story says the attic was filled with “forgotten things” and calls the arcade a “relic.” What do you think the word relic means? Can you name another example of a relic you might find in an old house? Old photos, trash, dust, mess, vases and an old tv.

The music box was “nestled on a bed of faded velvet.” What does the word nestled suggest about how the music box was placed inside the chest? A beautiful, sliver, music box covered in tiny carved stars and moons.

According to the map, where does the dotted line begin and where does the “X” mark the end of the trail? To the fireplace that is in the living room.

Inference (Reading Between the Lines)

Why do you think Leo decided to go into the attic even though he “wasn’t supposed to be” there? Because he wanted to know what was hidden up there.`

The map “seemed to shimmer with a faint, magical light.” What might this clue suggest about the map and the treasure hunt to come? That he was going to find what his grandpa was hiding for all this time.

How do you think Leo’s feelings changed from the moment he opened the silent music box to the moment he held the secret map? I think that he was sad to open an empty music box but when he found the map he got excited to see what he was gonna find.

Connecting to the Wider World

Leo found an adventure in a place he was already familiar with—his grandparents’ house. Can you think of a time you discovered something new or surprising in a place you thought you knew well, like your own home, neighbourhood, or school? Yes, my home because one day on the weekend I was bored and started to look for other things in my house and when I went upstairs I found a secret attic I had never been in before for some reason.

The map in the story leads to a treasure. In the real world, what kind of things do people consider “treasures”? They don’t always have to be gold and jewels. Money, family, love of your life, God/Jesus and a new life.

The old music box held a secret. Think about an old object you or your family might have. What story could you imagine for that object if it had a secret to share?  Well the only thing I could think of is my house because when we moved to this was when I was born and I love this house a lot. Fun fact actually this has been in some movies and fewer song videos  one of the movies that this house has been in is Dark horse i’m pretty sure I was one years old and lot the time when there’s a game on and our team wins it’s so cool how happy it makes my family.
